The Docks of New York (1928) is the third of Josef von Sternberg's three silent masterpieces for Paramount, and stars George Bancroft, Betty Compson, and Olga Baclanova. The cinematography is by Harold Rosson, who went on to work on
The Wizard of Oz, and
Singin’ in the Rain. Docks is a wonderfully romantic film, and is told largely through the incredibly expressive faces of they actors.
